International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent 2025

In commemoration of the International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent 2025, the Initiative for Research, Innovation, and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) is highlighting National, Regional, and International Frameworks that protect and promote the rights of women and girls.
This effort reveals Nigeria’s commitment to gender equity through its constitutional provisions.
National laws such as the Child Rights Act and the National Policy on Gender in Basic Education, as well as their endorsement and ratification of key international instruments, including CEDAW, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the Maputo Protocol.
By highlighting these legal and policy frameworks, IRIAD aims to promote awareness, empower women and girls of African descent with knowledge of their rights, and advocate for the effective implementation and enforcement of these protections across all levels of governance.
