International Widows Day 2023
IRIAD—The Electoral Hub commemorates International Widows Day 2023.
Widows represent a diverse and vibrant group of individuals who have suffered the loss of their life partners and are often subjected to several demoralizing and inhumane treatments. They have experienced immense grief and, in many cases, find themselves in vulnerable positions, both socially and economically. On this day, we stand together to remind ourselves of our collective responsibility to support and uplift widows, ensuring their rights, dignity, and well-being.
The theme ‘Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’ necessitates the need for widows’ inclusion and technological empowerment in order to bridge the gender disparity in this group.
We call on the government and relevant stakeholders to provide increased empowerment, particularly digital innovation, for widows. It is through this that we can have a more inclusive society.
