Only 19 women out of the 469seats in Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly ( 4/109 Senate and 15/360 House of Representatives)
and
54 women out of the 993 seats in the State House of Assembly.
To address this glaring marginalisation, the Special Seats for Women Bill (HB 1349) proposes:
74 Special Federal Seats (one per state + FCT). 108 Special State Assembly Seats (three per state).Our infographics highlight the few women who have broken through.
The Special Seats for Women Bill represents a bold and strategic move towards inclusive governance and equitable representation. In line with our commitment to promoting women political representation, IRIAD is actively participating in the Town Hall and Strategic Roundtable on the Reserved Seats Bill, convened by the House of Representatives today.
