Maputo Protocol Article 14: Health and Reproductive Rights
Every woman deserves the freedom, dignity, and autonomy to make informed decisions about her health, body, and future. Health and Reproductive rights are not privileges; they are fundamental human rights.
Article 14 of the Maputo Protocol affirms women’s right to control their fertility; decide whether, when, and how many children to have; access contraception; protect themselves from STIs; and receive accurate health information and family planning education.
It guarantees every woman’s right to make decisions about her health, body, and future. These rights are central to women’s health, dignity, gender equity, and justice.
IRIAD demand: Full implementation of Article 14 through
1. Accessible and Inclusive healthcare
2. Improved Maternal health services
3. Comprehensive sex education
4. Full protection of reproductive rights and choices.
When women’s health and reproductive rights are protected, families are healthier, communities are stronger, and society thrives.
