OUR WORK
Our Thematic
Areas and Projects:
We empower citizens including women, youths, girls, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with the knowledge and skills to actively engage across our thematic areas: public governance and accountability, gender justice, digital rights, urban development, human rights, environmental sustainability, and legislative advocacy. Through training, mentorship, civic education, and both traditional and digital advocacy, we enable communities to participate constructively in governance, shape policy outcomes, and strengthen democratic institutions.
CORE ORGANISATIONAL VALUES
IRIAD core values are the guiding principles that shape our vision, mission, and work across governance and democratic development. They include:
Knowledge is the foundation of IRIAD’s work. We promote the generation, sharing, and application of evidence, research, innovation, and practical experience to strengthen governance and democratic development. Through research, policy dialogue, civic education, capacity building, and partnerships, we create opportunities for citizens, institutions, and stakeholders to learn from one another, make informed decisions, and develop sustainable solutions to governance challenges.
We believe that sustainable development and democratic governance can only be achieved when everyone has the opportunity to participate. IRIAD promotes the meaningful inclusion of women, young people, persons with disabilities, marginalized communities, and other underrepresented groups in governance, policy-making, leadership, and civic processes. We ensure that diverse voices are heard and reflected across all our programmes and interventions.
Justice is central to ethical governance and sustainable development. We advocate for equal protection under the law, respect for human rights, access to justice, and fair treatment for all. Through our work on human rights, gender justice, electoral governance, and legislative advocacy, we promote systems that uphold dignity, equality, and the rule of law.
We recognize that individuals and communities face different barriers to participation and development. IRIAD is committed to creating fair opportunities by addressing systemic inequalities and promoting policies and programmes that ensure everyone has the support they need to participate fully in governance, leadership, and development processes.
Transparency strengthens public trust and improves governance. IRIAD promotes openness in decision-making, access to information, responsible public resource management, and open government practices. Through initiatives that encourage legislative openness, budget transparency, and civic oversight, we support institutions that are open, responsive, and accountable to citizens.
We believe that public institutions, leaders, and citizens all have responsibilities in building a democratic society. IRIAD promotes accountability by strengthening oversight, encouraging citizen participation, supporting evidence-based advocacy, and fostering mechanisms that ensure governments and institutions answer for their actions and commitments.
Integrity guides every aspect of our work. We uphold the highest standards of professionalism, honesty, ethical conduct, impartiality, and responsible stewardship of resources. We are committed to building trust with our partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders by consistently acting in accordance with our values and mission.
Innovation enables us to respond effectively to emerging governance challenges. IRIAD embraces creative thinking, technology, digital solutions, research, and evidence-based approaches to improve civic engagement, strengthen institutions, and advance ethical governance. We continuously seek new ideas and partnerships that increase our impact and contribute to just and sustainable development.
