KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
Empowering Citizens, Shaping Policies, Building a Resilient Nigeria
Since its establishment, the Initiative for Research, Innovation, and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) has become a trusted leader in advancing democratic governance, human rights, gender equity, digital governance, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development in Nigeria. Through knowledge generation, innovative approaches, inclusive programmes, strong advocacy, and measurable results, we have influenced reforms, strengthened institutions, and empowered citizens to participate meaningfully in governance and development.
IRIAD has advanced innovation in governance by training hundreds of young Nigerians as observers and civic advocates, building a Community of Practice of Young Advocates, and producing landmark research that has shaped reforms, inclusion, and accountability. Through national dialogues and the co-creation of Nigeria’s Fourth National Action Plan, we have promoted transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. Our advocacy campaigns have engaged hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, while multi-stakeholder platforms have strengthened collaboration among government, civil society, and the private sector. These initiatives have delivered measurable results in governance reforms and expanded inclusive participation for women, youth, and marginalised groups.
IRIAD has generated groundbreaking knowledge through the Women Political Representation Research Project and advocacy against Gender-Based Violence. We mobilised cmunities to challenge discrimination and pioneered studies on Violence Against Women in Elections, ensuring more inclusive and credible electoral processes. By strengthening leadership and institutional resilience across sectors, we have equipped CEOs, directors, civil society leaders, women’s organisations, and youth leaders with the skills to champion accountability and inclusive leadership.
Through innovative approaches to urban planning, IRIAD has promoted transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. By embedding citizen participation into local decision-making, we have improved service delivery and fostered more responsive and sustainable urban development.
IRIAD has advanced human rights protection, electoral justice, and democratic accountability through rigorous research, civic education, and public advocacy. Our work ensures that citizens’ rights remain central to governance and that justice systems deliver fair and equitable outcomes.
Through our Clean Up Saturday Initiative, IRIAD has combined knowledge and advocacy to champion climate resilience and environmental sustainability. We have conducted evidence-based research, mobilised citizens through awareness campaigns, and influenced policymaking to encourage environmentally responsible governance.
With our Digital Friday Initiative, IRIAD has innovated in digital governance by equipping citizens, especially youth and women, with the knowledge and skills to engage meaningfully in Nigeria’s digital space. This initiative has strengthened awareness of digital rights, expanded civic participation online, and ensured that marginalised groups are included in the digital transformation.
IRIAD has consistently delivered results in shaping reforms across governance, elections, gender equality, digital rights, and sustainability. Through sustained engagement with the National Assembly, MDAs, and civil society, backed by policy briefs, technical papers, and high-level dialogues, we have influenced Nigeria’s democratic and developmental landscape.
As a knowledge leader, IRIAD has produced technical papers, policy briefs, infographics, multimedia campaigns, and repositories that strengthen public discourse and policymaking. Our evidence-based outputs continue to shape national conversations and guide reform processes.
Building Impact Across Nigeria
Across all programmes, IRIAD has directly reached hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, youth, women, policymakers, civil society, and communities promoting transparent governance, accountable institutions, inclusive development, gender equity, digital rights, and environmental sustainability. Through innovation, inclusion, and advocacy, our work continues to deliver measurable results, building a more democratic, equitable, and resilient Nigeria.
