IRIAD-The Electoral Hub joins fellow Africans in commemorating the Day of the African Child.
As this year’s theme implies “The Rights of Children in the Digital Environment”, the internet has provided a vast range of opportunities that children across Africa can leverage for growth, development, networking, and many more.
However, the limited access to the internet poses an infringement on children’s rights such as education, freedom of association, and expression, thereby constraining their participation in the digital environment.
The internet poses potential risks for the violation of children’s rights, such as Online Children Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA). These issues have raised concerns and necessitated the need to develop strategies to protect the rights of children in the digital space. Therefore, we call on relevant stakeholders to protect and promote the rights of children in the digital space.
